Mario Kart Tour Review:

Nostalgia At It’s Finest & The Current State Of The Game. Mario Kart Tour is something I had been waiting on for while. Just hoping a Mario Kart game would make it to mobile one day. I guess it’s good that it took a bit of time because playing this game brings me back good memories of playing on some MK games like Mario Kart DS, Mario Kart 7, and Mario Kart 8. It’s like a big combination of all three, which I think is amazing obviously. With it being a mobile game there are some problems with touch controllers but it not enough to say that it ruins the game. I like the idea of being able to get different characters and seeing characters in outfits I would have never seen them in their games wearing. This asset to the game is probably if not one of the best reasons to play the game. You can now play with friends against bots or just players which is nice. The only thing I hope for is to be able to invite a friend to play against other online players in the future. One last thing, for the next Mario Kart game if any Nintendo workers read this, PLEASE... PLEASE add in these outfits to the game and stages from tour. They are short but with some editing that can be fixed. For real though I feel like Mario Kart should’ve been doing the outfit thing way before this game, it’s okay though. Other then that the game is really fun, and it fits really well compared to other games on the App Store visually and gameplay. Mario kart tour has many problems I’ll start simple. Paywalls, this game is not just an app, it’s a filthy cash grab that blocks every necessity behind a paywall. Sure you can play the game for free but as a Nintendo fan my whole life I don’t think this is what they SHOULD be doing. I’m all for calling out a company when they really need and now is definitely a good time too. The only reason this game is popular now is because everyone has a phone and no one wants to waste money on a system just to play Mariokart on it. Online play isn’t even online play, it just randomly generates names and puts you up against them. And I love the Mario franchise and would love to see it expanded even more than it is now, but this game didn’t do that for me. Also, Luigi isn’t playable yet(this might be outdated in a couple updates but I still wanted to mention it)? The starting roster has FOUR Marios, it has three peaches and two bowsers, six characters that could’ve been used on Luigi or any other character that hasn’t had a Mariokart debut yet. And finally, I want to mention that giving Nintendo support on this game is giving them reason to make more of these games where everything is blocked via paywalls and that is not how I would expect Nintendo to do things with a Mariokart game on the phone, though dr Mario did the same exact thing and Mario run was average. Very fun I’ve had a blast with Mario Kart Tour in my first 2 hours of playing it. Yes, there are some micro transactions in that game that are not necessary unless you are completely desperate for a character, kart, or glider, but I personally don’t care so it’s not a big deal. I’ve had more fun with this game than I normally do when playing any other Mario Kart, and that’s kind of surprising. Of course there is a limit to what you can do here, but it’s still very enjoyable. There are some faults though, like the fact it’s really easy, and I can usually get 1st place in one try. Then there’s the fact you start off with a character that is completely random, and when you wanna get something from the pipe it’s usually not a character, but even if it is it’s usually not one you want. The last one, is that I’m not a huge fan of the fact that you have to play it with your phone in vertical position because it kind of makes it harder to see things to your side. Some pros about this game are, the music is great, and very high quality for a free game. It can keep your attention for a few hours if you have nothing better to do. Also, it has a lot of Mario Kart courses that are in this free game which is kind of surprising. Alright, that’s all the time I got, I gotta get back to playing Mario Kart Tour.
